Registering in Cl@ve
Register in Cl@ve to do procedures online. Choose how to register according to the level your procedure asks for.
Cl@ve proves who you are on many government websites. But the basic level does not work for everything.
The essentials
- What it costs
- The official information does not mention any fee.
- How long it takes
- There is no fixed deadline. It depends on how long the letter takes to arrive or when the office can see you.
- To prepare it
- It depends on how you register: by letter, at an office or with electronic ID
Is it for you?
People who need to identify themselves with Cl@ve on government websites.
- Do you need the advanced level? The letter only gives the basic level.
- Does post reach your tax address? The letter is sent there.
- Do you have an NIE? Right now, automatic video registration only works for Spanish citizens with a valid DNI.
What to bring
Tick each document when you have it ready. Ticks are not saved.
Step by step
- Check which Cl@ve level the procedure you want to do asks for.
- If you have a digital certificate or an electronic DNI, you can get the advanced level. You can also go to a registration office.
- If you choose the letter: check that the tax office (Hacienda, AEAT) has your correct tax address, ask for the letter and finish registering with the CSV code inside it.
- Keep the confirmation and try logging in to the website you need.
Afterwards
- Use the Cl@ve Móvil app, or activate Cl@ve Permanente if you need it.
- If a website does not accept the basic level, register through an advanced-level option.
Common mistakes
- Believing that installing the app means you are registered.
- Asking for the letter at an old tax address.
- Thinking any registration lets you sign with Cl@ve Firma.
What this guide does not decide
Cl@ve does not replace the FNMT digital certificate when a website asks for that certificate. Video registration checked by a person can give the advanced level: check whether it is available and what they ask for.
